During renovation of this 3,200-square-foot (295-sq-m) prewar apartment on Central Park West, a hidden treasure was discovered while working on the foyer wall. The apartment had originally been a maisonette with access from the street as well as the lobby, and a wonderfully proportioned circular staircase stood untouched since the 1930s.
After extensive negotiations with the building and a quick redesign, the apartment now boasts a grand foyer with original railings leading down to a small family room—a hangout space for 8-year-old twins.
