248 Straw Bale House | Outdoor area

248 STRAW BALE HOUSE  SANTA FE, NM

The owner, originally from Los Angeles, was drawn to this 15-acre (6-hectare) Santa Fe property with unobstructed views because it reminded her of Tuscany, where she lived for 20 years and raised her children. She wanted a large eco-friendly house with two small guest houses for family and friends.

The result was this beautiful country estate of straw bale construction, with Tuscan influences throughout, including hand-carved window shutters. Antique French and Moroccan doors, and diamond-trawled walls, are among the details. A “twin casita,” caretaker residence, and barn complete the residence. The property has discreetly hidden solar panels and its own well and windmill.
