Italian Villa | Terrace with pool

Italian Villa  Tuscany

An important merchant in the architectural stone business purchased a lovely 2,600-square-foot (240-sq-m) villa just outside the city walls of Pietrasanta, an Italian contemporary artist’s colony on the Mediterranean coast near Lucca.
The objective was to update the villa for a cleaner, more modern look. Existing spaces were opened up to maximize circulation and light, and the pool area was reimagined for easy access and connection to the house.

The latter involved breaking through the foundation walls of the upper terrace and enlarging the small basement below to create a spacious poolside room. With floor-to-ceiling glass doors that fully open onto the pool, the new room blurs the boundary between indoors and out—and adds 435 square feet (40 sq m) to the property.
